Project Selection- My decision

I have considered my options on whether I should do a Film or Magazine Project. I will be doing the magazine project. I chose to create a magazine because I feel like I will have a better chance at success, since I’m creative, my writing is decent, and I’ll have a chance to enhance my photography skills. My magazine will be about health. I will be working independently on this health magazine. In brief, I will be covering the topic of obesity and why it’s dangerous, then I’m going to introduce exercise and diet to let the readers know what they can do to prevent this deadly disease, and why it’s important to prevent it.

Project Selection- Magazine

Magazines are ways for journalists to express themselves visually through their work. A magazine might be a good fit for me because I possess a plethora of skills ideal for creating a magazine project. These skills include, but are not limited to: Planning/Organizational skills, taking into account the audience or target population, and my distinctive style and creativity. Another useful skill for this project would be the ability to write. In order to do well, with a magazine there should be some level of structure and flow involved. In addition, i tend to do well in my language arts and creative classes so, it's a possibility. Contrarily though, a magazine might not be a wise choice for me because I’ve not yet experienced what it’s like to take professional, photos from a variety of different perspectives—Aerial shots, long shots, over the shoulder shots, etc. Without the prior experience this might put me at a disadvantage. Conclusively, despite the challenges a magazine project presents, it is still an option.

Project Selection- Film

Based on what we've learned in class, producing a film is what you make it; the task can be easy, or  challenging to fulfill. Some crucial aspects of film production would include getting a variety of camera shots and movements, inserting appropriate sounds when necessary, having pleasant editing skills and making sure that everyone that will be needed on set is punctual and present. With that being said, a film production will be challenging for me because it causes for synergy and cooperation, or the ability to work with others. I am an independent person, so I don't usually enjoy collaborating with others because usually that also means depending on them. There's a problem with depending on others, because if all of the members in my group aren't punctual and present, we'll never be in a position to achieve our goal of successfully producing a film. On the contrary, a film production would be a good fit for me because I have had previous experience with it. I was in a TV/Film program for 3 years and in the program we were taught the different camera shots, movements and editing techniques, that should be used in a film to make it flow as it should. I don't think doing a film production is the right fit for me, but of course I'll still consider the option.
