Magazine Production Posts

I worked independently on this magazine project.

Table of Contents

I chose to list the articles this way because that's how it appeared in most of the magazines I researched and because it correlates with the layout. I put the page number in the top right corner because it seemed appropriate considering the rest of the layout design. I used 2 photos and 2 fonts because for a table of contents the 2 pictures i chose fit best and I used the same font for the entire table of contents page except the page number, just to switch it up a bit.

Cover Template

I came up with the title because it is basically a summary of what my magazine is going to be about. I chose these fonts to make my magazine cover as similar as i could to a "real" magazine cover. I tried my best to go for the fonts that correlated most with my magazine topic.

Schedule photo shoot

I photographed Jonnieria Norris, former student athlete for Sarasota High. At Sarasota she did girls weightlifting and track and field discus. I photographed her doing push ups, drinking water, holding an apple, looking off into distances and tying her shoes on the track. I asked her to do these things because that';s normally what you'd find in a fitness magazine and it was something that most people actually do when they exercise.

Scheduling this photo shoot was not difficult at all. I used social media to intrigue people's interest. Several people asked for more information on how to get started, but she was the most dedicated and responsive, so I asked her to meet meat at Sarasota High School at around 2:30-3:30 p.m. and we got straight to work.

Scouting locations for photo shoots

The pictures were taken in the school courtyard because majority of the time in fitness magazines, photographers tend to include "idealistic" backgrounds. Some of these backgrounds would include but not be limited to: the beach, the gym, or at a park where there's a nice amount of trees and other parts of nature in the background. I chose the courtyard because it was most convenient at the time for both the model and I. I won't be using all of these pictures because some of them aren't as great as I thought they'd be.

90 Page Flat Plan

I am using these elements to communicate that eating right, looking nice, and engaging in physical  activities are all important factors to think about when deciding to convert to living a more healthy and fit lifestyle. Majority of my intended audience will feel exhilarated because they look as good as they feel. Other articles listed in my flat plan include several different ways to prepare the foods people tend to love, in a healthier fashion. There will also be a couple of sections about mental health and eating disorders; binge eating, anorexia, and obesity. Those sections will be included to make people aware of the effects switching over your lifestyle can come with. Whether it's for your good or if it puts you at a disadvantage, you should know the consequences.

Scheduling Interviews and developing questions

I will interview the chefs in the school cafeteria. Our school lunch is specifically made to be healthy and avoid obesity. We have lunch menus up that tell the student purchasing their food how healthy each dish is, with the colors red, yellow, and green. The items color coated green are the most healthiest and the red is least healthiest. Scheduling will be quite simple. Whenever i see a chef that isn't busy, i will approach her and ask her "how would you like to be in an interview for a health and fitness magazine"? If she agrees we will schedule a time most continent for the both of us and go from there. Some questions I'll be asking are:
1) Do you think the food you prepare is benefiting the children's health?
2) Would you implement a different approach if you could? What would you change, and why?
3) How many times do you exercise a week?
4) What is the healthiest meal you prepare at Sarasota High?
Just to name a few. The answers to these questions will be crucial because one answer will lead me to the next topic of discussion in my magazine.
